오늘 조선일보 단독 보도에서 현대차가 최근에 전기 배터리 핵심소재인 니켈을 확보 하기 위해 해외 광산에서 직접투자 방식을 추진 중인 것으로 알려졌다고 보도 했는대요
배터리 양극재의 필수 적인 니켈은 배터리의 용량을 좌우하게 되는 핵심소재라고 합니다.
현재 현대차 경영층에서 이 문제를 심도 깊게 검토하고 있는 것으로 알려져 있으며 광산 투자사업을 전담 할 TF 팀을 꾸릴 가능성이 크다고 하는대요
그 동안 배터리 완제품을 공급 받아 온 현대차가 광산 투자를 직접 검토하고 나선 것은 처음이라고 합니다.

사실 2017 현대 모터 스튜디오를 아이들과 방문하며 넥쏘(수소전기차)를 구경하고 온게 엊그제 같은데...정말 감개무량합니다.그때 아이들에게는 미래의 환경을 위해 꼭 필요한 자동차 라고 가르치면서도 어른인 저의 속마음은 ‘이게 과연 가능할까..?’ 였습니다.

This marks the first time Hyundai, which has traditionally sourced battery components externally, has delved into the direct evaluation of mining investments.

In fact, I vividly remember visiting Hyundai Motor Studio with my children in 2017 and admiring the NEXO (hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle). It feels like just yesterday. While I taught my kids that it was a car essential for the future environment, deep down, I wondered if it was truly possible.
I feel a bit embarrassed now for doubting it, hehe.
Hyundai Motor has announced that its goal is to start bringing nickel to Korea in earnest by 2027, as reported in the newspaper.
The reason Hyundai is venturing into nickel mine development is because securing a sufficient supply is expected to become increasingly difficult. Unlike lithium, which is primarily used for battery manufacturing, nickel is widely used in other applications such as stainless steel production.
If this goal is achieved as planned, Hyundai's global electrification efforts could advance even faster.
