딸아이가 지독한 감기에 걸려서 며칠째 고열과 기침과 시름 중이다. 며칠 동안은 학교에 갔다가 조퇴하기를 반복 하기를 일주일째 한 번도 이렇게 오래 감기를 앓아 본 적이 없어서 안되겠다 싶어. 베트남 큰 병원으로 갔다( 사실 베트남에 있는 조그만 한인 병원을 가서 처방도 받았지만 ;; 늘 그렇듯.... 돌팔이 진료사의 약이 들을 리가 없다.)
My daughter has been suffering from a severe cold, enduring high fever and coughing for several days. For about a week, she has been going to school only to leave early, and she has never been sick with a cold for this long before. Feeling concerned, I decided to take her to a major hospital in Vietnam. In fact, we had visited a small Korean hospital in Vietnam and received a prescription, but as always... the medicine from those quack doctors was unlikely to work
먼저, 빈홈 근처의 빈멕 병원으로 달려갔다. 점심시간이다. 흐억;;
혹여 베트남 병원을 가시려는 분들은 알아 두시는 게 좋겠다. 베트남 큰 병원 들은 대부분 11:00~1:00 PM. 이 점심시간이다. 그마저도 의사들이 느릿느릿 먹고 천천히 복귀하시면 기다려야 한다는 걸 참고하시길;;
First, I rushed to the Vinmec Hospital near Vinhomes. It was lunchtime. Oh no;; For those considering going to a hospital in Vietnam, it's good to know that most of the major hospitals there have their lunch break from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Moreover, you should be prepared to wait, as the doctors often take their time eating and return slowly.
아주 딱 점심시간에 맞춰 소아과에 도착한 우리를 응급실로 안내해 준다.(emergency). 하;;이런... 우리는 빈멕을 여러 번 갔어도 소아과 진료를 제대로 받아 본 적이 없다. 어쩜 항상 이리 시간을 못 맞추는지..ㅠㅠ.
5시에 문을 닫기 때문에, 학교 갔다 와서 우왕좌왕하다 가면 항상 끝날 시간이 돼 버린다는... 슬플... 이야기..
Just in time for lunch, we arrived at the pediatrics department and were directed to the emergency room (emergency). Sigh... Despite our several visits to Vinmec, we have never managed to receive proper pediatric care. It's unfortunate how we always seem to get the timing wrong... Since they close at 5 PM, by the time we get there after school and dawdle, it's always about to close... A sad story...
그래도 어쨌건 응급실은 참 익숙하다. (벌써 4~5 번째) 응급실 문은 정문을 바라보고 왼쪽에 따로 나있다. 큰 문을 열고 들어가면 바로 응급 진료실이 나온다. 책상 두 어개 놓고 간호사 들이 무슨 일로 왔냐고 물어보면, 이런저런 사정으로 왔다, 쏼라~~쏼라~~ 하고 바로 뒤에 있는 침대로 눕혀준다. 그리고 의사 선생님이 나오셔서, 또 쏼라 ~ 쏼라~~하고(영어를 잘 하시는 분도 있고 서툰 분들도 있고 복불복이나. 대체로 간단한 의사소통은 된다)
Still, the emergency room is quite familiar to us. (Already the 4th or 5th time) The door to the emergency room is separately located on the left when facing the main entrance. Once you open the large door, you're directly in the emergency consultation room. There are two desks where nurses ask what brought you in. After explaining our situation, they quickly guide us to a bed just behind. Then a doctor comes out and talks to us (some are fluent in English, others not so much, it's hit or miss. Generally, basic communication is possible).
진료 보고 검사할 것이 있으면, 휠체어를 가지고 간호사 오빠들이 여기저기 층을 활보하며 검사실로 옮겨 준다.
참고로, 휠체어 빈멕은 휠체어 비용 받는다. 서비스 비용으로 치는 것 같다. (어쩐지 되게 친절히 서비스해 주더라;;)
여하튼, 각설하고 우리 얘기로 돌아오자면, 어제 우린 진료를 못 받았다. 대충 진료 보더니 급성 폐렴인 거 같은데 입원을 무조건 해야 한다며, 하지만 우리에겐 병실이 없다. 뭐 대충 이런 얘기.
그러니 다른 병원으로 얼른 가 보아라. 의사가 한 말들이다.
빈멕은 늘 사람이 붐비고, 늘 병상이 부족하다. 검사실도 거의 늘 풀 예약이다. 밖에서 보면 엄청 큰 병원인데 시설이나 병상이 늘 부족한 느낌이다. 시설을 좀 늘리든지 하지.. 빈 그룹 뭐 하고 있나..?!
After the consultation, if tests are needed, nurses push us around in wheelchairs to various floors and to the test rooms. By the way, Vinmec charges for wheelchair use, which seems to be considered a service fee. (No wonder they provide the service so kindly;;) Anyway, getting back to our story, we couldn't get a proper diagnosis yesterday. After a brief check-up, they suggested
it might be acute pneumonia and insisted on hospitalization, but there were no rooms available for us. Basically, they told us to quickly go to another hospital. Vinmec is always crowded, and there always seems to be a shortage of beds. The test rooms are almost always fully booked. From the outside, it looks like a huge hospital, but it always feels like there's a shortage of facilities and beds. They should really expand their facilities... What is Vin Group doing..?
할 수 없어. 다른 외국인 병원으로 갔다. AIH(American International Haspital) 생긴지 얼마 되지 않은 병원이다. 시설이 굉장히 깨끗하다. 직원들이 대체적으로 영어를 잘 해서 소통에 어려움이 크지 않다.
문제는 너무 기다리게 해.. 흐엉.. 정말 엄청 기다리고 기다리고... 검사실은 오히려 빠르다( 즉, 직원들은 열일 하는데) 의사들이 너무 느려..;; (서로 문 닫고 잡담도 마구 함..) 시간을 좀 잡아먹는 스탈들 이다.ㅠㅠ
개중에 다행인 건 한국 통역사가 계신다. 요청드린 적 없는데 어떻게 알고, 진료받을 때, 딱! 나타나셨다.
" 안녕하세요 !" 오! 얼마나 귀가 뻥 뚫리는지.....
진짜 타국 살이 에이서만 경험하는 건데, 가끔씩 들리는 우리말은 진짜 진짜 속이 뻥 뚫리는 기분이다. 김치찌개 먹은 기분!
암튼, 덕분에 편하게 진료받았다. 증상은 ' 급성 기관지 염' 폐렴에 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. 하지만 입원까진 안 해도 된다고, 휴.
아! 그리고 AIH는 병상이 많다. 입원도 가능하다 얘기도 해주시는 것 보니 빈멕보다 병상이 여유 있나 보다.
Left with no choice, we went to another foreign hospital, AIH (American International Hospital), which hasn't been around for long. The facility is very clean, and most of the staff speak English well, so communication wasn't much of a problem. The issue is the waiting time... Oh, it was so long and tiresome... Though the test rooms are relatively quick (meaning the staff are working hard), the doctors are quite slow;; (they close their doors and chat a lot..), really eating up our time.ㅠㅠ
Fortunately, there was a Korean interpreter. I never requested one, but somehow they knew and appeared right when we were getting our consultation. 'Hello!' Oh, how refreshing it was to hear our language... Living abroad, the occasional sound of your native language feels like a breath of fresh air, like eating kimchi jjigae!
Anyway, thanks to this, we received a comfortable consultation. The diagnosis was 'acute bronchitis,' close to pneumonia, but thankfully, hospitalization was not necessary. Ah! Also, AIH has many beds available for hospitalization, suggesting they might have more availability than Vinmec.
소아과는 2층인데 검사실은 1층이라, 진료만 보면 검사는 초고속으로 끝난다. 진료만 끝나면 약국(1층)으로 내려가 받는 일도 초고속으로 끝난다. 다시 말해, 의사들만 빨리빨리 해주면 참 빨리 끝날 수 있는 시스템이다. 직원 들은 친절하며 매우 빠르다. 즉 다시 말해, 의사들만 빨리빨리 해주면 참 좋은 병원이다.
결론을 말하자면, 빈멕 병원 vs AIH의 승자는..? 난, AIH이 훨씬 더 깨끗하고 좋았다고 얘기하고 싶다. 물론 의사들이 느릿느릿하는 건, 혼(?!) 내주고 싶지만, 그래도 직원들의 친절도도 높고 영어도 능통하고 시설도 깨끗하고 무엇보다 빈멕보다 저렴한 거 같다 (물론, 어떤 검사를 받느냐에 따라 다르겠지만 빈멕에서 눈탱이 맞은 경험이 많아서..)

The pediatrics department is on the 2nd floor, but the test rooms are on the 1st floor, so once the consultation is done, the testing is completed very quickly. After the consultation, going down to the pharmacy (1st floor) is also done rapidly. In other words, if only the doctors could be a bit faster, the system would allow for a quick completion of the entire process. The staff are kind and very efficient. In summary, the winner between Vinmec Hospital and AIH..?
I would like to say that AIH was much cleaner and better. Although I would like to scold the doctors for being slow, the staff's friendliness, English fluency, cleanliness, and especially the fact that it seems more affordable than Vinmec (although it depends on the tests) make it preferable (I have had several bad experiences of being overcharged at Vinmec).
Below is the medication prescribed for my daughter, who had symptoms similar to pneumonia, for her 'acute bronchitis'. For your reference...
1.Augmentin( 오그멘틴) : 광범위 항생제로, 급성 만성 기관지염, 폐렴, 부비동염, 중이염.... 등등에 쓰임 (부작용은 설사...) So Then , 액상 유산균과 같이 처방해 줌. 식사 바로 직전 1알, 하루 2번 복용
1.Augmentin: A broad-spectrum antibiotic, used for acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, otitis media, etc. (Side effect: diarrhea...) So then, it is prescribed along with liquid probiotics. Take one pill right before meals, twice a day.
2.Azithromycin (아지트로마이신) : 기관지염, 폐렴, 부비동염, 중이염... 등등 각종 감염증 치료제로 항생제이다.
(부작용은 설사, 졸림...) , 식사와 상관없이 1일 1회. (단, 약사가 말하길 위에 오그멘틴 항생제와는 1시간 차이를 두고 먹으라고 하심. 항생제가 2개라 그런가...)
2.Azithromycin: An antibiotic for treating various infections like bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, otitis media, etc. (Side effects include diarrhea, drowsiness...). Take once a day, regardless of meals. (However, the pharmacist advised taking it one hour apart from the Augmentin antibiotic, possibly because two antibiotics are being used.)
3.Bacillus Claussii (바실루스 클라우시) : 유산균/ 정장제 (특이하게 액상형이다.) ,1일 2회 복용
3. Bacillus Claussii : A probiotic/digestive aid (uniquely in liquid form). Take twice a day.
4.Paracetamal(파라세타몰) : 타이레놀 계열 / 발포 해열제 (특이하게 물에 타서 먹는 발포형이다) ,열이 날 때 복용
4.Paracetamol: Tylenol-type / effervescent fever reducer (uniquely a dissolvable effervescent type). Take when feverish.
5.Bromhexine( 브롬헥신): 기침 가래약 /진해 거담제, 1일 3회 5ml 복용.
5. Bromhexine : Cough and phlegm medicine / expectorant. Take 5ml three times a day.
개인적 의견 : 여러 번 경험해 본 결과 웬만하면 한인 병원 보다 현지 외국 병원을 추천한다. 한인 병원이 외국 병원인 빈멕 병원이나 AIH 병원보다 싸지도 않을뿐더러, 진료 실력이 너무 형편없음을 느낄 때가 한두 번이 아니기 때문이다. 엉뚱한 진단을 할 때도 더러 있어서. 누군가 물어보면 필히 외국 병원을 가라고 추천한다.
Personal opinion: From my several experiences, I would recommend foreign hospitals in the area over Korean hospitals. Not only are Korean hospitals not cheaper than local foreign hospitals like Vinmec or AIH, but I have also often felt that their medical skills are subpar. There have been instances of incorrect diagnoses. If someone asks, I definitely recommend going to a foreign hospital
